Questionable officiating? Ref controversy?

LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Mike Hood sank a pair of free throws with 1.3 seconds left to lift UC Irvine to a 59-58 victory Thursday night that snapped Utah State's undefeated home record this season.

With 3.9 seconds left in the game, Ronnie Ross hit two free throws to give Utah State (17-6, 8-4 Big West) a one-point lead, but just 2.6 seconds later, he fouled Hood.

The Irvine (14-7, 8-4) victory was just the third time in the last six years that a Big West opponent has beat USU at the Spectrum.

Adam Parada scored 15 points for Irvine and Jordan Harris added 13.

Desmond Penigar led USU with 21 points and Toraino Johnson had 13.

Irvine's offense pounded USU in the first half as the Anteaters built a 33-22 lead. Utah State's Spencer Nelson ran into foul trouble midway through the first half and spent much of the time on the bench. Nelson came into the game averaging 10 points.

Penigar scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half, including eight points with just a little over five minutes remaining.
