Aggies Fly High Over Highlanders

Desmond Penigar scored 18 and Spencer Nelson added 14 as the Aggies improved to 5-2 in Big West play.

LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Desmond Penigar scored 18 points and Spencer Nelson added 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Utah State to a 77-58 victory over UC Riverside Thursday night.

Utah State (14-4, 5-2 Big West) opened the game struggling against Riverside (3-9, 2-4), but turned things around after going on a 12-0 run in the first half.

The Aggies led 32-29 at the half and made a 13-2 run in the first 2:15 of the second half, highlighted by two slam dunks by Nelson and Penigar.

Nate Harris scored 13 points for USU and Mark Brown had 10.

Klaus Schille led Riverside with 12, and Nate Carter, who came into the game averaging 18.8 points per game, was held to 10.

Riverside's offense struggled as it committed 18 turnovers, and shot just 42 percent.
