According to verified rumors on USU's campus, Riley Nelson has given a verbal commitment to attend USU and play Football for the Aggies. Nelson, who plans on serving a Mission for his Church (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), is not expected to suit up for the Aggies until 2009. Nelson was also being recruited locally by the University of Utah, and took recruiting trips to Stanford and the University of Washington. It was rumored that both Stanford and Utah were trying to recruit him as an "athlete", possibly to play Safety instead of QB. Riley's size (6'1", 195 LBS) does not make him the prototypical QB. However, Riley was a double-threat QB for Logan High School, passing for 3,780 yards, and rushing for 1,150 more. Logan High School won the 3A State Championship, and beat the eventual 5A State Champ's (Skyline High of Olympus Cove, Utah) earlier in the Season. Riley is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the Country to emerge this past year, but his size probably prevented him from being looked at by many of the Universities and Colleges throughout the Country. Riley, who is not the "prototypical" QB, weighs in at 195 LBS, and is 6'1" tall. Nelson's Senior season at Logan High School, quickly caught the attention of the local media by passing for over 3,100 yards and rushing for another 1,500 more. Logan High School won the Utah 3A State Title, and defeated the eventual 5A State Champion, Skyline High School of Salt Lake City. Rumor has it that Nelson will likely serve a two-year Mission for his Church before attending Utah State. It possible that Riley Nelson will not suit up for the Aggies until either the 2008-2009 season. Some Riley Stats: Season Stats Rushing - 1,150 yrds Carries - 120 Passing - 3784 completions. |
