Aggies enjoy "the Beach"

Posted Feb 8, 2002

Long Beach —— USU took a rare win at the Long Beach State Pyramid, beating the 49'ers 60-53. The Aggies were lead by Desmond Penigar, who scored 15 points, and Ronnie Ross was the second highest scorer with 11. The Aggies are now 17-4, and 9-3 Big West, and remain one game behind UC Irvine in the Big West.

The Ags actually trailed 27-26 at halftime, but came out and went on a 17-6 run to open the second. The 49ers were without double-figure scorer James "Rudy" Williams, the league's No. 5 rebounder, who is out with torn thumb ligaments from a game nearly two weeks ago at Santa Barbara.

And now the stage set. The Ags, who sit alone at second place, will go into first-place UC Irvine Saturday night. You may remember back when Irvine defeated USU 67-66 in the Smith Spectrum on Jan. 10 to break a 31-game Aggie home-winning streak. Saturday will be the Aggies chance to extract a little revenge for the home loss.
