USU edges "the Beach"

Desmond Penigar lead the Aggies with 26 points and 11 rebounds last Saturday to edge Long Beach State 70-66.

USU is now 4-2 in Big West, and a very respectable 12-3 overall. LBSU’s Travis Reed scored 18 points to lead the 49's (1-4, 5-11).

Also helping the Aggies out on the floor, Tony Brown finished with 15 points and three 3-pointers for the Aggies, and Jeremy Vague totaled 13 points and seven rebounds.

The Aggies actually trailed at one point in the game 50-45 with 12:35 remaining, but like the Irvine game, managed to come back with a good 13-3 run over the next six minutes to take a 58-53 lead and never looked back.

USU head coach and campus icon, Stew Morrill, had to at one point in the game had to grab a microphone and plead with the fans not to “throw ____ on the floor”, not something normally seen by the usually reserved Morrill. Seems no one wanted to question the coach in the matter since after the BYU toilet paper incident that cost USU a technical foul and a early BYU lead. USU eventually went on to win that game.
