Aggies sign former Timpview High Star Brian Soi

BYU's loss is USU gain
It is not usual for
Utah State
to land one of the top 100 football recruits in the country, but the Aggies will apparently get one a year or two later than usual.?
Former Timpview all-stater
Brian Soi
, who signed with Brigham Young in February (2003) but did not qualify academically, told The Salt Lake Tribune on Tuesday that he has signed with Utah State. Soi will enroll in classes next week, but will not be eligible to play for the Aggies until the 2005 season. ?
Because he is an academic nonqualifier, Soi could not get into
BYU
, which does not accept "prop 48" cases. He played last fall for a prep school, Hargrave Military Academy, in Virginia. ?
Soi was listed as one of the nation's best defensive linemen after his senior season at Timpview. ?
Also, Brian Soi confirmed that his younger brother, tight end
Justin Soi
, has "pretty much" verbally committed to the Aggies. Justin Soi is a senior at Timpview, and just completed an all-state season for the Thunderbirds.?
"We are probably going [to Logan] together," Brian Soi said. ?
Justin Soi also was recruited by BYU, Utah and Southern Utah, but probably will be a prop 48 case because he lacks the core classes necessary to be immediately eligible.?
The Sois' cousin, Timpanogos lineman
Isley Filiaga
, is also considering Utah State. Filiaga said Tuesday he has visited Utah, but would like to visit Utah State,
Boise State
, BYU and
Kentucky
before deciding. ?
"I have a lot of options," he said, noting that he has passed the core classes he needs, thus far, to qualify for a Division I program. He still is awaiting the results of his ACT college entrance test.
