USU tops BYU 76-74

Posted Dec 24, 2003

What looked like a sure blowout of BYU turns out to be anything but.

LOGAN, UTAH If you want a more fair and ballanced story, please go to www.deseretnews.com or www.sltrib.com. This Aggie fan is here to gloat.

No excuses for BYU, they were simply outplayed, outshot, and outclassed by USU PERIOD! In front of 10,000 screaming and Navy Blue clade Aggie fans, BYU (6-2) found out quickly that they were not in Provo (Utah) anymore.

I know that all the papers will tell you the Aggies blew that 26 point lead, but I'm telling you that in BYU's eyes, they were supposed to win this game without a sweat. But on thier way to a top 25 ranking something happened. They crossed us!

Here are some excerps from the UStateAgs.com faithful:

"Damn! Last night was FUN!
Last night was more fun that I could have possibly imagined. Utah State played an inconceivable first half, and their strategy of using the weakside man to double Araujo worked beautifullly. USU was patient and ran their offense perfectly.

And in the stands..... oh man! We had a TON of fun with the whiteboard and the best sign of the night was definately, "I made Judy Bigelow a True Aggie". The prescription bottles were great. The portugese sign that read "I hear that steroids make your testicles small, is that true?" was great as well. The crowd was LOUD and BLUE. Props to TO for getting the shirts out.

Props to BYU for their comeback in the second half. Araujo started to play better, and when he had a dunk late in the game he screamed at the Bull Pen releasing pent up frustration. Even though it was a big dunk, it's always good to see evidence that you're in a players head.

I couldn't beleive how many Zoramites were in the stands. What I really don't understand is how you can live in Logan and prefer BYU basketball over USU. In the last five years, USU's program has had more success. The team isn't full of hypocrites and the Spectrum is 10x as hostile as the Marriott Center.

While BYU made a good comeback, winners are determined by coming through in the clutch. Spencer Nelson was pure ice.

Last night couldn't have been better in any way! GO AGGIES!"

Gee thanks Lorenzo, and welcome back to the site.

"AGS WIN, AGS WIN, AGS WIN

76-74 on a great underhanded lob shot with 1.2 seconds left. According to the game clock, the Cougars did not call time until 0.005 but the refs put 1.2 back on the clock. Appropriately, the inbound pass was intercepted by Nelson. He ended up with 19 points.

By biggest complaint is that we played this game not to lose in the second half. With a 26 Point lead at half (WOW) we should have been going hard to the basket and keeping the scoring going. Instead we played "see Mark Brown Dribble" and BYU patiently got back in the game. THAT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN WITH THAT KIND OF LEAD! I hope we learned something there. After shooting 67% in the first half, we end up with 52% which means we missed a lot of shot in the second half. We did out rebound them 31-21.

Player of the game was a much a product of Nate Harris' play in the second half as it was Nelson. Those two, along with Cardell Butler carried the game to BYU. Butler and Nelson in the first half and Nelson and Harris in the second half.

I think the Ags wrote the book tonight on how to front Araujo, with the off-forward when the ball is to the other side. Stew Morrill did it again, even if he did score 12 points in the second half.

WAY TO GO AGGIES...BOO HOO KOOGS!"
