USU downs southern neighbor Weber State 66-60

USU beats Weber State in Ogden, Utah.
AggieSports recaps USU v Weber game: The Good: 1. Always great to win your first road game confidence wise...let alone against an in-state rival. Weber St. had won 19 in a row at home and swept the Big Sky last year. This year's Weber team isn't as good as last year, but they are solid. They had lost their stand out point guard, but returned both their studs inside. They should win the Big Sky again as predicted by both coaches and media. 2. Balance. Stew (in post game) kinda chuckled and said that this year will be a lot of fun because teams won't be able to focus on shutting down one or two players. Tonight's game: The good: S. Nelson 26 min 13 pts 8 rebounds N. Harris 24 min 12 pts 9 rebounds 3 blocks M. Brown 28 min 11 pts 2 rebounds 2 assists 2 TO C. Huber 18 min 7 pts 2 rebounds 2 assist 2 TO (this kid is as intense as anyone you will play against this year) J. Williams 27 min 5 pts 5 rebounds The Questionable: M. Ahmad 15 min 7 pts 2 rebounds (early foul trouble) C. Butler 31 min 6 pts 5 rebounds 2 assists 3 TO (hit a huge 3) 3. At half time Ahmad had 3 fouls, McVey had 3, Nelson had 2 and Harris had 2. But as deep as we are at the 4 and 5, nobody fouled out. 4. 3 point shooting: 5-11 46% 5. Rebounds: USU 38 Weber 24 6. Bench: USU 29 Weber 7 7. Free throws: 25-29 86% 8. Good old fashion Aggie Defense. The game was close until 4 min to play when the Aggies held Weber scoreless for 5 min. 9. 61% FG in the 2nd half. The bad: 1. Butler is in an early season funk....he hit a huge 3 when we needed it, but had missed his first 3 shots prior to that and turned the ball over the first two times he touched it tonight. 2. 16 turnovers to Weber's 5 3. Ahmad will likely battle foul trouble all year long. But when he turns it on, he can turn it on. His 7 points tonight we on 3 consecutive plays. Overall, this was a great win. Stew's first at Weber as an Aggie. Illinois St. at home this Sat night will be another good test. Next tues in SLC against a very good
Utah
team.
