As Ken Beazer mentioned in the
last update, I will be taking over the Big Blue Update duties. Ken has done
an excellent job getting information out to our many fans, and in turn,
creating a forum for those that have question and concerns. I hope you will
continue to give feedback so that I may learn from you, and take the
information to enhance the Big Blue Club. I am very excited to be working
at Utah State, and with the Big Blue Club; I feel there are great things on
the horizon for the Aggies. I look forward to the seasons starting and
seeing some great games!

USU PRESIDENT
KERMIT HALL TO REPRESENT SUN BELT CONFERENCE
Utah State University
President Kermit L. Hall has been selected to represent the Sun Belt
Conference as an executive committee member in The Presidential Coalition
for Athletics Reform. The Presidential Coalition for Athletics Reform
represents the interests of 44 institutions, which are not members of the
six conferences in the Bowl Championship Series.
"We are so happy to
have Dr. Hall in the league," said Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Wright
Waters. "He has such a national profile and respect among his peers. We are
delighted that he is representing our league."
"One of the
University's goals in joining the Sun Belt Conference was to be in the
position to play an important role in shaping the future of Division I
football in the west, and more generally, in the nation," Hall said. "I look
forward to working with my colleagues to represent the Sun Belt Conference
and to move the reform of Division I athletics forward."

USU FOOTBALL
SELECTS TEAM CAPTAINS
For the first time in
head coach Mick Dennehy's four years at Utah State, the Aggie football team
will have permanent season-long captains. At the recommendation of the team,
the squad voted for the new captain system. In Dennehy's first three years,
USU selected weekly game captains.
The three permanent
captains include tight end
Chris Cooley (offense),
linebacker Robert Watts
(defense), and cornerback/return specialist
Jerome Dennis
(special teams).
A weekly captain
selected by the coaches will also represent the team at each game.

DID YOU KNOW…?
The Big Blue Club sponsors the
Varsity Award, an award
given to a senior of each sport who has excelled at balancing the on-and-off
the field demands of a student athlete. A board member is assigned to work
with a coach from each sport to determine which student athlete represents
Utah State admiringly in the community as well in their sport. The awards
are then presented at each sports annual award dinner.
