FRESNO, CA – Allen Huddleston scored a team-high 19 points as Fresno State beat cross town Fresno Pacific 77-68 in a exhibition game on Friday night at the Save Mart Center. Kevin Foster added 16 points for the Bulldogs…

Fresno State committed 24 costly turnovers, including 14 in the first half but had enough to fend off Division II Fresno Pacific.

Allen Huddleston gave Bulldogs fans a preview of what a scoring point guard can do in head coach Rodney Terry’s offense. The junior transfer from Pacific, who sat out last season, scored eight of the 'Dogs first 10 points en route to his team leading 19 points.

He also dished out eight assists but equally had eight costly turnovers. Jerry Brown also accounted for six turnovers despite being close to a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Forward Kevin Foster used his inside presence in the second half to hit 6-of-11 buckets in the game for 16 points and six boards. True freshman Tanner Giddings had a game-high 10 rebounds and added four points to go along with his impressive five blocks.

The Bulldogs used eight players in their rotation with junior Tyler Johnson and true freshman Marvelle Harris starting along with Brown, Foster, and Huddleston. Senior Garrett Johnson and true freshman Aaron Anderson came off the bench with Giddings.

Four-star recruit Robert Upshaw and 2011-12 leading scorer Kevin Olekaibe didn’t dress while they continue to recover from injuries.

Fresno State shot 67% from the field (10-15) as the Bulldogs built their largest lead, 25-14, in the first half before becoming careless with the ball. The ‘Dogs turned the ball over 11 times in the final 11 minutes of the first half while attempting just 11 shots. The Sunbirds capitalized and closed within two points, 27-25, before FS used an 8-2 run to close out the half.

The Bulldogs shot 60.3% from the field, however, attempted eight less shots than FPU.

As a team, FS hit five of its first six three-point attempts in the first half but only attempted one in the final 12 minutes before the break.

Fresno State opens the season next Friday at Texas.
